Biography
Abubakar Sani was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1987 and has maintained an active presence in private legal practice since then. He joined Mike Ozekhome LP in July 2022, bringing with him an extensive wealth of experience accumulated over nearly four decades of active legal practice.
Beyond the courtroom, Abubakar has a strong interest in legal scholarship and public commentary. Since 2016, he has been a regular contributor and columnist under the column 'Insight' in ThisdayLawyer, a weekly legal feature of Thisday newspaper. His articles have also appeared in Businessday, Daily Trust, the Punch and the Guardian newspapers.
In 2013, he successfully challenged and overturned a military-era decree, the Students Union Activities Act of 1989, which had restricted student union activities. His efforts yielded a landmark judgment at the Federal High Court, standing as a testament to his commitment to civil liberties and the rule of law.
